Spain (July-August 2008)
|

|
Stu and I left for Spain on July 22, 2008, and returned to Oklahoma on August 3. Of the approximately 1,300 photos I took, about three dozen were good/interesting enough to display here. These photos (and one video) were all taken with my new Canon SD890 IS camera. As with most of the albums here, the photos have been re-sized or cropped to 800 x 600 pixels. Latitude and longitude values are provided, generally with an accuracy within about 10-20 meters (about 200-500 meters for shots from a moving vehicle). You can copy the values and paste them into Google Maps/Earth (or any GIS software, perhaps with minor modifications) to see the locations. Unless otherwise noted, the tracking information was derived from my Garmin eTrex Vista Cx track log.

Lorca, Murcia, Murcia, Spain

This palm tree was plainly visible from the Lorca Rock Festival. This image, after major photo editing, became the "dot" in the current (as of early 2009) cmsharpe.com logo (the image in the upper-left corner of most of this website, excluding the blog and this photo gallery).Jan 14, 2009

Gas prices49 views2008-08-02
Santa Cruz de Mudela, Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain
N38.63432 W3.46984
Gas prices in Spain (as of Aug 2, 2008) were almost double the prices in the USA. To get $USD/gallon, multiply these prices by 6 (almost exactly), and for $CDN/liter, multiply by 1.65 (exchange rates approximate, for the time of this photo). Our rental car took the high-grade diesel fuel (the highest prices), but fortunately got approximately 40 to 50 MPG. Looking N.Aug 06, 2008

Renfe train55 views2008-08-02
7 km SW of Valdepeñas, Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain
N38.70578 W3.42155
This is an inter-city train operated by Renfe, the national railway of Spain. We had considered taking one of these trains (probably including this route), but, as http://www.notesinspanish.com so accurately noted, Renfe's website "es un desastre" (is a disaster). It was too difficult to figure out, so we rented a car instead. Photo zoomed in at 5x. Looking ENE.Aug 06, 2008
